GESSS Sponsorship

The GSA is the ‘primary sponsor’ of the GSA Earth Sciences student symposium (GESSS) Australia-wide and is committed to the success of your symposium by underwriting the conferences and protecting the GESSS committee members.

Each GESSS committee will seek sponsorship to support their symposium.

The GESSS Committee Treasurer and Sponsorship Team will work with the GSA in raising invoices for sponsors.

Sponsorship is essential in raising funds for a good symposium. Sponsorship funds will allow purchase of better quality food, prizes and allow a post-symposium event to be financed.

Attaining sponsorship is often done through contacting potential sponsors via a letter, and following up with a phone call/visit. The latter builds a personal rapport with a potential sponsor, which may include local universities, government organisations (e.g. State Geological Surveys) and local mining/exploration companies and service providers. The committee will need to consider whether there will be different levels of sponsorship (e.g. platinum, gold, silver), and what the potential sponsor can be offered for their money (e.g. advertising at the event/in the abstract volume, a short speech for the top sponsor). Some GESSS Committees also send potential sponsors a sponsorship prospectus package highlighting the benefits or different levels of sponsorship.

If a company or institute is interested in sponsoring GESSS, they should complete a Sponsorship Form and return it to the Committee Treasurer. This form will be forwarded to the GSA Business Office to issue an invoice to the sponsor.

The GESSS Committee Treasurer/Sponsorship Team can track their progress contacting potential sponsors through a Sponsorship Contact Template.

Acknowledgement of Sponsors
It is critical to acknowledge all sponsors, this includes:

  • GSA branding will be prominent in all promotional material before and during the symposium, as this is a GSA event. This includes placing GSA logo prominently on banners, promotional material, online platforms etc. Other association/membership organisations should have a less more prominent presence than the GSA;
  • Be sure to obtain a high-resolution logo from your sponsors to improve the impact on social media/banner abstract volume etc.;
  • A sponsor page on the website showing all sponsor logos (can be sized/categorised according to sponsorship level);
  • Having promotional material and banners at the GESSS event;
  • Verbal acknowledgement in the opening and closing address (may only be done for larger sponsors if there are a lot);
  • A slide show to be shown during breaks that shows all sponsor logos (can be sized/categorised according to sponsorship level);
  • A sponsor page within the abstract volume.
