Coal Geology Group (CGG)

Email: [email protected]

The GSA Coal Geology Specialists Group was established in the 1980’s to provide an avenue for liaison between all members of the Geological Society of Australia interested or involved in the study of coal geology and its applications, through which information can be obtained and distributed with ease and expedience. It also promotes research on Australian brown and black coals and their involvement with related disciplines (e.g. petroleum geology, sedimentology, structure and tectonics, palaeontology). The study of coal requires the integration of all geological subdisciplines, and crosses over into engineering for extraction, processing, utilisation and environmental restoration. In 2019 we formalised our close association with the New South Wales Coalfields Geology Council (CGC) and the Bowen Basin Geologists Group (BBGG) who are corporate members of the GSA CGG. Through these avenues we host seminars, conferences and field trips and publications from these.  Please drill down into the side menu for more information.
