Membership Support Officer/Book-keeper Position
Location: Hornsby and remote

Classification: Level 3
Part-time position 28 hours per week, based on 7 hours per day worked between the hours of 8.30am-4.30pm (4 days per week) includes 1 hour lunch
Salary: $50,000 + superannuation 4 days per week pro-rata

About the organisation
The Geological Society of Australia (GSA) was established as a non-profit organisation in 1952 to promote, advance and support Earth sciences in Australia. The Society's members represent all Earth science professions, including geologists, geophysicists, geochemists, palaeontologists, geotechnical and engineering geologists, environmental geologists, and associated professions. Members are located throughout Australia and internationally and are employed by the minerals and petroleum industries, government departments, research and education institutions and consultancy groups.

A small team based in Hornsby runs the administrative side of the organisation. The primary function of the business office is the professional delivery of member services and to position the GSA as the preferred choice for all geoscientists in Australia.

About the role
The Membership Support Officer/Book-keeper Position is a variable role, that combines functions and is responsible for the financial administration of member services and financial records for the GSA and will work closely with all team members on membership. Key responsibilities of this role are to ensure the GSA financial records are accurate and to provide administrative support to members and event organisers. The position works across most areas of the GSA's administration.

Responsibilities
Book-keeping
• Process membership payments and ensure membership database payments reconciles to bank statements
• Keep MYOB up-to-date and prepare bank reconciliations
• Work with the CEO in the preparation of the monthly financial reports

Events
• Set up events in Eventbrite, create zoom meeting for Committees
• Update the website as new events are established

Membership
• Comfortably respond to and assist members with queries
• Administer new membership applications

Administration Support
• Perform general office administration and other ad-hoc duties as required, including but not limited to postal or mailouts
• This is a small team that works closely with each other

To be considered for this position your application must demonstrate the desirable skills and attributes for this position
• Ability to manage platforms such as MYOB, iMis, Microsoft and Evenbrite
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and with attention to detail
• You will be an open communicator who is flexible, accountable and comfortable working in a small team
• You will be using your communications skills to build on existing relationships with volunteers and members
• A background or understanding of Earth Science or Science / NGO /membership sectors is an advantage
• Excellent communication, writing and interpersonal skills, professionalism, and a commitment and willingness to assist other staff across the small GSA team
• A passion for the STEM sector and a commitment to the principles of diversity, fairness and equal opportunity

• The office is based in Hornsby, NSW but we envisage the position will be a mix of working from home and in the office (possibly a 50-50 mix), negotiable for the right candidate
