Member
Members are usually graduates of a university or other tertiary institution with a major in Earth Sciences, or graduates actively engaged in work relating to Earth Sciences. In special circumstances, the Executive Committee may approve applicants have been employed in a technical aspect of Earth science for at least five years, or applicants who have undertaken and published research in the Earth Sciences. Applicants normally resident outside Australia are not eligible for this category, but are eligible for Associate Membership.
Associate Member
Associate Members are over 18 years old, and can demonstrate a genuine interest in the Earth Sciences. A school or other non-commercial group may become an Associate Member. This category also applies to applicants who fulfill the requirements of the Member category, but are normally resident outside Australia.
Retired Member
Retired Members have been a member of the Society for at least ten years. Retired Members retain all privileges and have the option of membership with or without the journal.
Student Member
Students are enrolled full-time or part-time studying Earth Sciences at a tertiary educational institution or a secondary school, and can provide certification from their Head of Department.
Graduate Member
Graduate Members are recently qualified Earth scientists. This category is only available for two years, normally immediately after applicants complete undergraduate studies.
Joint Member
Joint Members are recognised partners of an existing Member and fulfill all the requirements of the Member category. Joint Members have all Member privileges excluding the journal.
Life Member
Members eligible for life membership with the GSA will either be current retired members of the GSA for a minimum of 10 years OR Current full members of the GSA for a minimum of 20 years

Affiliates and Correspondents
Professionals in other disciplines not eligible to join as Members can join Specialist Groups if they are employed in, or genuinely interested in, specialist areas of Earth science. Applicants satisfy the requirements of their nominated Specialist Group. Affiliates are Australian residents and Correspondents are non-Australian residents.
Honours Students
Earth science honours students are eligible for one year's free membership during their Honours year.
