Australian Earth Sciences Convention 2006
This fabulous gathering was the largest domestic Earth Sciences conference ever held in Australia, attracting 1,073 registrants, 495 oral presentations, 116 poster papers and 96 exhibition booths.

New One Planet Campaign
The GSA has launched a new promotional campaign – One Planet So Many Stories – to refocus our efforts and thinking about the variety of disciplines in the Earth Sciences, the importance of on-going geological education in our career paths, and how membership with the GSA can stimulate a sharing of knowledge and the professional and personal benefits that can bring.
New Executive
Incoming President Andrew Gleadow says that perhaps now is the time to consider establishing a more truly national Executive.  Towards this end, and within the existing structure, he has invited a number of people from around the country to join the new Executive Committee as we consider some of the important issues before us. The new committee is detailed on the GSA website.

Earth Scientist elected science academy president

Professor Kurt Lambeck, Professor of Geophysics, Australian National University (ANU), has been elected to lead Australia’s senior organisation of research scientists and technologists, the Australian Academy of Science.

The Prime Minister, John Howard, announced recently that the rugged volcanic peaks of the Glass House Mountains are being added to the National Heritage List.
